Advocacy

The Regional Information and Advocacy Council (RIAC) provides Individual Advocacy and Systemic Advocacy services for people with a disability, their families and carers. This is a free service.

Individual Advocacy

Individual Advocacy focuses on upholding the rights of individuals, their families and carers.

RIAC aims to achieve positive outcomes by:

  • Providing information and support
  • Making referrals to appropriate services
  • Representing individuals to service providers
  • Taking issues to government levels
  • And any other steps that are necessary to uphold individual rights

Systemic Advocacy

RIAC provides a Systemic Advocacy Service.

Systemic Advocacy focuses on making changes in systems while upholding the rights of all individuals.

RIAC aims to achieve positive outcomes for individuals by:

  • Participating in ongoing consultation with Service Providers, Government Departments and Ministers.
  • Participating in advisory and management committees.
  • Monitoring services for people with a disability at a local, regional, state and national level.
  • Assisting in the planning and development of services for people with a disability

RIAC has two Aboriginal Advocates who work in the following Areas

Loddon Mallee
(HACC Advocacy Services Only)

  • Rural City of Mildura
  • Rural City of Swan Hill

Self Advocacy

RIAC will encourage people to self advocate where possible and will assist with self advocacy. RIAC also assists with the establishment of new self help groups and provides ongoing support to existing groups.
